Forgotten Search

Today it was,
the first time ever.
I forgot to look for him,
down by his locker,
three down from the
English class door.
I forgot to look for him.

It took me
two years to notice him,
ten minutes to meet him,
one hour to like him,
three months to trust him,
and seven months to tell him.
And today was the first day
that I forgot to look for him.

I smiled at her,
his girl, his love,
pride and joy,
I hoped.
The one I trusted to make him happy
and to make me happy
and distract me from the other him,
and distract me from
the loss of him,
and she did.
Because I didn’t look for him
today.

I find myself feeling guilty
as if he was never there
a memory,
lost
forever.
Never in my life,
trusted him once,
never coming back,
and I may never see
him again.
Because I forgot to look.

Hello Jane Doe

Painting by Norman Rockwell

Hello Jane Doe,

I think that it has been a while
since I have seen this face.
Downcast in a shadowed fall
and previous disgrace.
And monster claws raked across one eye
where Jane, you must once have wept,
and darkenings upon soft pale skin
from the times you haven’t slept.

A pure white dress might fool yourself
for a moment, no, no more.
Perhaps you were once innocent,
naïve, perhaps, before.
And yet, now ghosted,
phantom haunt, of what might not have been
had nothing destroyed that ‘lone of yours,
had you not proceed to sin.

To mistakes, unto the day
that might not have taken toll,
should you, Jane Doe, because you aren’t me,
had not lost that tapered soul.

This poem has a bit more symbolism than the last. Basically, it’s talking about a girl looking into the mirror. Who she sees staring back at her is an unkown stranger. She has become a haggard, frightening woman, a ghost of who she used to be. Because of the guilt from all of her transgressions, she refuses to believe that this woman is her. She longs to be innocent again, the way she was when she was a child, but somewhere deep down she knows she can never turn back time.

I hope you enjoyed, and have a wonderful day!
